Annual Events at Trinity

Trinity’s academic and social calendar is always active There is a bit of a rhythm to our calendar, as we celebrate annual lectures, the accomplishments of our students, and commemorate our alumni.

Trinity Days

Each fall, at Trinity Days, we pull out all the stops. We welcome our alumni, host a special guest for a series of lectures, and enjoy time together as a whole community. All alumni are always welcome and acknowledged, though we hold reunion gatherings for alums celebrating their 50th reunion.

Recent keynote lecturers include the Bishop Yehiel Curry, Rev. Dr. Jacqueline Bussie, the Rev. Dr. Karoline M. Lewis, and the Rev. Dr. Kenda Creasy Dean.

Community Kristallnacht Commemoration

On the night of November 9, 1938, Nazi authorities instigated violent attacks against Jewish persons and their properties across Germany and Austria. This “Night of Broken Glass” turning point was a tragic event foreshadowing the horror, violence, and loss of life we associate with the Holocaust.

Each November, Trinity partners with the local Jewish community to host a Kristallnacht remembrance event.

Nelson W. Trout Lectures

The Trout Lectures honor the life and legacy of the Rev. Dr. Nelson W. Trout (1920-1996). He was a Trinity Lutheran Seminary alumnus, a member of the Trinity faculty, and the first African American elected to serve as a Lutheran bishop. His vibrant preaching and commitment to social ministry inspired hundreds of seminary students and touched thousands of lives.

Each spring, we hold a multi-day celebration, featuring a keynote lecturer. Recent speakers include the Rev. Dr. Yvette Flunder, the Rev. Dr. Eboni Marshall Turman, and the Rev. Dr. Otis Moss, III.

Commencement

We celebrate our graduating students each May, remembering what they have brought to our community, acknowledging what they have learned, and commissioning them to the next phase in their vocational journey.
